I Can’t Stop You Growing Up

I was there – when you were born
In the same room
December fifteenth, nineteen-ninety four
I was forty
You were a new born
Positively perfect in every way

You were there – always ahead
August twenty-first, nineteen-ninety five
I was forty-one
You were on the run
Positively perfect in every way

We were there – growing taller
Talking too soon
December fifteenth, nineteen-ninety six
I was forty-two
You were too much fun
Positively perfect in every way

I was there – half sad alone
In the old room
July the second, two-thousand and twelve
I’ll be fifty-eight
You were on the run
Positively perfect in every way

I can’t stop you growing up
I can’t stop the years from slipping away
From finding the path that’s good and right for you

I can’t stop your growing up
I can’t stop your slowly slipping away
Positively perfect in every way

I can’t stop you growing up
May God bless you as you follow your way
Positively perfect in every way
